TAMA COUNTY (KWWL) - Four people, including a 2-year-old, were injured after being involved in a three-vehicle crash in Tama County Sunday night.

Crews were called to Highway 30 and R Avenue in Tama County at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Iowa State Patrol says two vehicles, a Toyota Highlander SUV and a semi tractor-trailer, were heading eastbound when the SUV began to pass a semi in a fully-marked, no-passing zone.

The SUV, driven by 74-year-old Julia Tibodeau of Marion, then hit a westbound Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 23-year-old Shayna Hindman of Marshalltown.

Tibodeau's SUV then sideswiped the rear of the semi she was attempting to pass, driven by 27-year-old John Sidler of Boone.

Tibodeau's SUV entered a ditch and rolled coming to rest on its top. Hindman's car came to rest on its shoulder.

Tibodeau was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for treatment. Hindman was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Two of Hindman's passengers -- 41-year-old Carlyn Thatcher and an unnamed 2-year-old girl -- were also taken to Marshalltown Hospital.

All involved were wearing seatbelts at the time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
