RIVERSIDE (KWWL) -

For more than three decades the well known TrekFest in Riverside is making another big draw.

Most Star Trek fans know the tiny town south of I-80 in holds special significance for star trek fans.

The TrekFest brings together thousands from not only Iowa, but the entire Midwest.

Organizers say the family fun event features food, competitions, costume contests and much more.

"It 's fun," said TrekFest ship captain, Paul McCracken. "It gets you away from the hectic, negativity of everyday life. You get to come down here and be something, you don't care what anyone thinks, just have a good time, be yourself and have fun."

This is the 31st year of the event and the first year they've celebrated since the death of Lenard Nemoy back in February.

Nemoy played Mr. Spock in the star trek series and organizers planned many attractions in his memory this year.
