DES MOINES (KWWL) - Governor Terry Branstad has signed five bills into law.

One bill increases Iowa's solar energy tax credits and adds production tax credits for utility solar projects.

Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids managed that bill in the Iowa Senate.  (D-Cedar Rapids) watches as Governor Branstad signs HF 645 into law.

In a statement, Hogg says, "That's good for the environment and our economy. Solar energy is already working for thousands of businesses, farmers and homeowners across our state.”

The new legislation adds $500,000 to Iowa's solar energy tax credits, bringing the total to $5 million per year.

The other bills Branstad signed are:

House File 635: an Act relating to matters under the purview of the Department of Transportation, providing fees, and including effective date provisions

House File 661: an Act relating to probate and estate-related laws, including the deduction of administrative expenses on the Iowa fiduciary income tax return, the Iowa inheritance tax, fiduciaries' right to property and information, and the surviving spouse's elective share, and including applicability provisions

Senate File 176: an Act relating to school district property tax replacement payments for certain budget years and including effective date provisions.

Senate File 485: an Act relating to the voter-approved physical plant and equipment levy by authorizing school districts to exceed the statutory levy rate limit following the refunding of refinancing of certain loan agreements and including effective date provisions

After today's bill action, the governor now has 14 bills to sign before the deadline of July 6th.
