JACKSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

UPDATE:

Jackson County authorities say 73-year-old Stephen Water Brandenburg died today after a house exploded early Thursday morning.

Jackson County Sheriff's Office received the call at 4:40 a.m. from Per Mar Security, reporting the fire and motion detector alarms were going off.  The call was for 2235 312th Avenue, Jackson County.

Deputy Corey Kettman and Preston Fireman Lucas Schmidt heard yelling while shutting off the gas at the house, and found Brandenburg in the basement.

Brandenburg was pulled out, taken to the Jackson County Regional Medical Center and eventually airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic, where he died from his injuries.

The Iowa State Fire Marshall's Office says the incident is still under investigation.  They say they still don't know the cause of the explosion, and will release those details at the end of the investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Preston Fire Department, Miles Fire Department, Preston Ambulance, Jackson County Regional Medical Center Ambulance, Jackson County Emergency Management and the Iowa State Fire Marshall's Office.
