Shooter identified in Louisa County officer-involved shooting

LOUISA COUNTY (KWWL) -

Police have now identified the shooter in an officer -involved shooting in Louisa County.  Authorities now confirm the shooter is Louisa County Deputy David Perley.

Police say they attempted to pull over 55-year-old Richard Spurling earlier this month in Louisa County, but he refused to stop.  After a brief pursuit, Spurling then drove towards a deputy. when Perley shot Spurling in his upper body.  Spurling was taken to the hospital but is expected to be ok. 

Perley has been a Louisa County deputy since 2002 and has 27 years of law enforcement experience.  Both men have been interviewed, as authorities continue to investigate.
