OSAGE (AP) -

A 50-year-old northern Iowa man has been accused of plotting to poison someone who told police about being sexually assaulted by the man.

Mitchell County authorities say the target of Mark Retterath intended to testify against Retterath about being assaulted by Retterath in 2003, 2006 and 2012.

Retterath, of Osage, was charged Friday with attempted murder and remains in Mitchell County Jail.

His attorney didn't immediately return a call Thursday from The Associated Press.

A criminal complaint says Retterath told an acquaintance that he wanted to kill the other person by using a toxin called ricin that could be made from castor beans.

Authorities say castor beans, duct tape, saws, power cords, garbage bags, gasoline containers, tarps and shrink wrap were found during a search of Retterath's residence last week.
