Columbus Sailors State Champions

Posted: Updated:
Most summer days at Byrnes Park Tennis center in can find dozens of young children getting coached up by members of the powerhouse Sailor tennis program.. a rite of  passage Columbus Girls experienced themselves--so many summers ago.

Lauren McManus said, "when I was like three with Mr. Will..he starts us early which is great obviously.."

Nat Sot..Dave Will or course is the caretaker of this tennis dynasty...he inherited

...a young-- team with just one senior. And a Freshman sensation Olivia Fain in the top singles spot. You can say tennis is in Fain's blood literally--with her mother, Maggie finishing 3rd in the state under coach Will a couple of decades ago. And Mama Fain played a big role this spring updating the team's look--by designing new uniforms.

And the Sailors wore the new outfits well..losing just one meet during the regular season --and rolling through a tough field at the state tournament--dropping just one match..hard work --and chemistry...

"Olivia Fain said" It was great and I have great teammates..we all get along really well we are all best was awesome."

McManus added, "Everyone comes to play and we try to deal with the nerves best as we was hard coming in as the one seed..but everyone worked with it well and we showed up that day."

And Dave Will said, "I drive the bus..they do all the work I just drive the van and encourage them.. they did have a lot of fun this year."

On this day only five of the seven Sailors were PHYSICALLY available--senior Maggie Weber was gone catching the biggest fish of her life in Canada.. and Brianne Eighmey was just a Facetime phone call away in Punta Cana, Mexico

Olivia Fain, Columbus Sailors State Champions, Lauren McManus CS State Champions,Karlee Sinnott WCS State Champions, Franny Roche Columbus Sailors State Champions, Hannah Sinnott Columbus Sailors State Champions..Brianne Eighmey Columbus Sailors State Champions..

and with all but one player returning in 2016...and an 18th State Championship is definitely within reach...
