CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids Police responded to a security threat at the Eastern Iowa Airport Wednesday morning.

The threat happened around 3 a.m., shutting down the airport terminal.

According to police, a man notified OnStar and said he had a bomb, and was going to blow up the airport.

The Cedar Rapids Joint Communications Center then received a call from OnStar.

Police say the 47-year-old suspect was seen leaving the airport property. Police say he was taken into custody near Highway 30 and Edgewood Road. He was alone and his car was searched, but nothing was found.

The man has been taken to the hospital to be evaluated. His name has not been released.

Cedar Rapids Police say he faces charges of False Reports, a Class D Felony. His name won't be released until an official charge comes.

The airport was put on lockdown as bomb technicians searched the terminal and the parking lot. No explosives were found. The lockdown was lifted at 5 a.m.

An airport spokesperson says she doesn't know if the man intended to fly on Wednesday. The spokesperson also says no one missed their flight and everything is now running smoothly.
