New York apartment building wants owners to DNA test their dogs

NEW YORK (KWWL) -

In New York City, an apartment complex has a new policy for dog owners. They have to get a DNA test for their dog.

They have to prove their dog's DNA doesn't contain more than 50-percent of a banned breed. 27 dog breeds including pit bulls, German Shepherds and Shih-Tzus are banned under the policy.

"I don't know what the penalty would be. I guess if you live in 170 and you don't give them the DNA test, I don't know what they'd do to you. I guess you get a lawyer," said Susie, who lives in the building.

The policy is designed to make sure breeds of dogs the board finds troublesome aren't living in the building.
