A former Tama County City Clerk is arrested and is facing embezzlement charges.

51-year-old Anna Leytham of Garwin is accused of embezzling more than a half-a-million dollars while serving as Garwin City Clerk.

DCI agents say Leytham used Garwin city funds to pay for her own personal credit cards. An audit conducted by Iowa's Office of Auditor of State reportedly found Leytham also issued 107 checks totaling more than $68,000 to herself, which were in addition to her payroll checks.

Leytham served as Garwin City Clerk from 1998-2013.  She resigned from her position in early 2014.

Leytham has been charged with five (5) counts of Theft 1st Degree and One (1) count of Ongoing Criminal Conduct.

Special Agents with the Iowa Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation-Major Crimes Unit (DCI), in conjunction with Deputies of the Tama County Sheriff's arrested Leytham at her home in Garwin.
