DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

An adolescent black bear was found dead Sunday night on U.S. Highway 20 near Jesup, according to Kevin Baskins with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Baskins said it appears the bear was hit by a vehicle sometime between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Sunday, though no vehicle was found near the bear.

He said the bear was about 5 feet tall and 150 pounds. He believes the bear wasn't a cub, but wasn't quite an adult, either.

Baskins said they believe the bear hadn't taken up permanent residence in Iowa, but was most likely just out wandering.

He also said he wasn't sure if this bear was the same one that was spotted in Dubuque.

The DNR believes there are at least two bears in Iowa, and he said this bear could've possibly been a third.
