FAYETTE COUNTY (KWWL) -

Authorities say Thomas Cannon - the suspect who cut off a GPS ankle bracelet and was missing for hours - assaulted a woman before he tried to get away from law enforcement on Monday.

Cannon was supposed to show up at the Fayette County jail Monday morning to begin a sentence on third degree sexual abuse.

Instead authorities say he went on the run, and tracked him to a trailer in Allamakee County where he had barricaded himself inside.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says during the search and arrest Monday, an investigation found Cannon had stolen a firearm from a home, assaulted a female and was in possession of a firearm as a felon.

They say Cannon assaulted his girlfriend early Monday morning.

Cannon is now charged with theft in the third degree, possession of a firearm as a felon, escape from custody and attempting to flee the state.
