MITCHELL COUNTY (KWWL) - The man police say shot and killed a Children's Museum worker in Coral Ridge Mall last week had been issued a permit to carry a firearm.

The permit had been issued to Alexander Winn, which was Alexander Kozak's name before he was married to Kellie Kozak, according to Mitchell County Sheriff Greg Beaver.

The permit was issued in July of 2014, according to Beaver, and is now revoked since he was charged with first-degree murder.

The private security company Kozak worked for, Universal Services of America, issued the following statement Monday:

"First, we want to extend our prayers and express our sincerest condolences to the victim's family, friends and loved ones," public relations manager Angela Burrell said in a written statement. "We were notified that an employee, who had resigned earlier in the day, June 12, was taken into custody following the shooting death at the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, Iowa.

"We are shocked and deeply disturbed by this incident and are cooperating fully with local law enforcement," the statement continued. "As this is an active police investigation, please contact the local authorities if you have any further questions."
