One suspect is in custody and remains in critical condition after attempting to enter the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas on Monday morning.

The unnamed suspect was armed, according to the Air Force Base Public Affairs Office, but they did not specify with what.

The suspect did attempt to "gain unauthorized access to the base gate" at around 9:15 a.m. Monday.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for medical treatment in critical condition, according to the Office. That person is also in custody.

A bystander was also transported to a hospital for "non-related medical care" and was released.

The base is no longer locked down, according to the Office. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also involved in the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Two people were taken to a local hospital after an unspecified incident at an air force base in Arkansas.

The Little Rock Air Force Base Public Affairs Office told media via a press release that "an active threat" at around 9:15 a.m. Monday at their front gate prompted the two to be taken to a hospital.

They declined to say what the "active threat" was or if the threat was still in progress.

The base did say that all entry points were locked down as a result of the incident. Personnel and visitors were "advised to stay away" from the base "until further notice," according to the base's Twitter feed.

The press release said first responders were on scene coordinating with the Jacksonville Police Department as well as the Air Force Office of Special Investigation.
