CORALVILLE (KWWL) - While some major department stores around Coral Ridge Mall stayed open during Saturday's investigation, on Sunday the mall officially opened back up for the first day since the shooting took place Friday night.

Shopper Nancy Barton and her husband drove from the Davenport area to shop in Coralville.

“I want some new tops,” said Nancy Barton, shopper.

They were part of a number of people heading to the mall, just days after police say 22-year-old Alexander Kozak opened fire in the food court, killing 20-year-old Andrea Farrington.

Barton says she wouldn't be here without her husband.

“I feel like with him available, he can lead me out and I'll follow,” said Barton.

Coralville's mayor says it's important to remember what happened Friday night is rare, and says this is really a safe community.

“What the community can take comfort in is the quick response from public safety to this event," said Mayor John Lundell. "How, within an hour, they had the shooter in custody. That just proves how good of law enforcement we have in this area."

Barton said she felt safe at Coral Ridge.

“It can happen anywhere, so I'm not going to stop living,” said Barton.
