IOWA CITY (KWWL) - An Iowa City man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting his caregiver.

According to a criminal complaint, the victim went to Chad Eugene Smith's home on Thursday to make sure he was cleaning and taking care of himself.

During the visit, Smith began asking for kisses and hugs and said that he wanted to be her boyfriend.

The victim tried to tell Smith that they were just friends and that's when Smith grabbed her by the neck and tried to kiss her.

The complaint said the victim fought with Smith for 20 minutes as he put his hands into her pants and underwear several times and tried to get her pants off while rubbing up against her.

The victim was screaming for help and called police before Smith got off her.

According to the complaint, Smith apologized and asked her not to tell anyone what happened.

Smith then ran away after the victim had called police.

Police found him hiding in another part of the apartment building.

The victim had bruising on her neck as a result of the assault.

Smith has been charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse-bodily injury.
