Jesup woman stunned at bear in backyard

Posted: Updated:

"I came out on my deck, I was shaking out a sheet. I happened to look over and there's a bear sitting under my bird feeders," said Becky Wilberding.

She knew it was a rare opportunity, so she ran inside to snap photos.

She says she wasn't scared, just in we.

"He had been sitting underneath the bird feeder, then just went across the woods and the creek, kind of ambled off," she said.

But he wasn't done with her house yet.

He destroyed all her bird feeders.

Grape jelly, oriole food, the bear didn't discriminate.

DNR officials say that's not surprising, because bears are just really large raccoons -- they have similar diets, just pack a little more punch.

"I'll probably never see a bear in my backyard again, I think I'm pretty fortunate," she said.

DNR officials believe it's likely the bear is the same one from Dubuque.

It was last spotted east of Raymond.
