NORTH LIBERTY (KWWL) -

No serious injuries have been reported after a transformer failed at a substation in North Liberty.

Justin Foss with Alliant Energy says five people were inside the enclosed area doing maintenance work when the malfunction happened.

Rescuers were called after a piece of equipment caught fire around 1:15 p.m.

The five people inside were taken to local hospitals to get checked out.

Alliant Energy had approximately 4,200 customers without power after the malfunction happened.  Power has been restored to about 3,000.

The remaining customers could be without electricity for a number of hours.  Foss said it might not be restored until sometime Friday.
