DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque Police arrested a local man Wednesday morning after he led them on a chase through parts of Dubuque.

Police tried to pull over Jimmane Pittman, 25, just before 9 a.m., they said in a release.  Police say they knew Pittman had a 5-day jail sentence to serve.

According to police, Pittman didn't stop, and was pursued by police on Crescent Ridge.  Police say the chase reached speeds of 55 miles per hour.  Pittman turned north on Cedar Cross Road and continued onto JFK Road.  He then turned onto Asbury Road, where officers pulled off the chase, because he had turned into a largely residential area.

Police say they were able to relocate his car on Parkway Street with nobody inside.  Police saw him walking in the area, and when they tried to stop him, he took off on foot.  Officers finally caught up to him and arrested him in the area of West 3rd and Glen Oak Streets.

In addition to his 5-day jail sentence, police say he now faces charges including eluding, interference with official acts, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and numerous traffic citations.

His initial court appearance is set for Thursday.
