The "Mayor's" term in Ames is almost up.

Sources say Fred Hoiberg told his players and staff he is leaving Iowa State to become the new head coach of the Chicago Bulls.

Fred Hoiberg is just couple of dotted I's and crossed T's from becoming the new head coach of the Chicago Bulls. The deal is reportedly worth $25-Million over 5 years.

Hoiberg will be leaving Iowa State after five years and four trips to the big dance. Monday afternoon Hoiberg board a plane in Ames for Chicago.

Fred Hoiberg going to the Bulls has been one of the NBA's worst kept secrets.

The Mayor was speculated to be the next head coach in Chicago weeks before Tom Thibodeau was fired.

Before Hoiberg flew to Chicago this afternoon to finish the deal--he sought to set the record straight.

"It didn't matter what offer would have come last year I wouldn't have taken it." Hoiberg said, "Now things are a little bit different of course all of us when we have life changes that happen you sit down with your family and weight everything and make the best decision you can."

The Bulls have scheduled a 2pm press conference Tuesday to announce the decision.
