DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Loras College's 3rd annual Duhawk Day can be marked down as a success.

The school received 1,477 donors in just 24 hours, exceeding their goal of 1,450 donors.  It also saw more than 400 people celebrate at 23 locations across the country, and thousands more taking part through social media or through informal gatherings.

“When we increased our donor goal nearly 26 percent over last year, our Duhawks were presented with quite a challenge,” Mike Doyle, vice president for institutional advancement, said in a written statement. “We knew they would be up to it, but reaching 1,477 donors in 24 hours is simply remarkable. Many colleges our size do not attract that many donors on an annual basis—let alone in one day. The entire campus community is grateful and thankful for the extraordinary passion and support of our alumni, parents and friends.”

Donations received through Duhawk Day will benefit Loras College's $75 million Inspiring Lives & Leadership campaign—the largest fundraising campaign in the 176-year history of the College. In addition to raising funds to support student aid and faculty/staff professional development, the campaign seeks funds to build upon the launch of its MBA program, business analytics initiative and other academic programs. As of April 30, 2015, the campaign has raised $70.1 million through more than 18,000 donors.
