Police: Man drove through yards and over mailboxes

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City man faces charges after police say he drove over mailboxes and through multiple yards, leaving parts of his car behind. Jacob Clark, 18, was booked in the Johnson County Jail on Saturday afternoon; he's charged with 3rd degree criminal mischief.

Police say they were called early Saturday morning after multiple mailboxes were damaged, and yards driven through in the Royal Oaks and Lake Vista neighborhoods. Investigators also say that a "road closed" sign was destroyed after being run over with a car.

At the scene, they found multiple parts from a car, including a bumper, with a paint color that matches the damage at the other locations; the bumper had a license plate still attached. Police contacted the registered owner, who says he had sold the car to Clark a few weeks prior, and they didn't remove the plate after the sale.

Investigators later found Clark and a green Honda, which had matching front end damage. Clark allegedly admitted he was driving the car and that he damaged the property on purpose.

The cost to replace each mailbox is $100 and the cost to replace the damaged "road closed" sign is $500.
