Free family fishing to be held in North Liberty

An annual eastern Iowa free fishing weekend is right around the corner.

Take A Kid Outdoors is giving kids and the entire family a free opportunity to try your hand in fishing.

June 5-7 starting at 8:30 a.m., the free family event will have live fish, experts from Scheels, fly fishing demonstration, food ,and prize drawings.

Fishing license requirements are waived for Iowa residents for these three days; all other fishing regulations are still in effect.

The Free Fishing Event is open to the public and follows the Iowa Casting Games.

The State Casting Competition games will be held at Liberty Centre Pond in North Liberty.

Games competitions through Iowa schools. All Iowa youth (grades K-12) are eligible to participate in one of two divisions- State Medal Class (students who placed 1st-3rd in their school's competition) or Open Class (students who did not place or did not participate in a competition.

Registration for the Fish Iowa Games State Finals is $5 and you can preregister for that activity at (www.iowagames.org/Sports/SummerGames/FishIowaGamesFinals.aspx);

Organizers are asking people to dress appropriately for the free fishing, and remember to wear layers, a hat, jacket, sunscreen, among other items.
