SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KWWL) -

After more than 4 decades the drought is finally over. Iowa knocked off Oregon 3-1 on Friday afternoon to pick up the first NCAA tournament win for the program since 1972.

Junior Tyler Peyton picked up the win for Iowa. Peyton scattered 7 hits while allowing just 1 run in 7 1/3 innings. Nick Hibbing picked up the save keeping the Ducks scoreless in the final 1 2/3 innings.

Iowa scored all 3 runs without knocking a ball out of the infield. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the second on an infield single by Nick Day. The final 2 runs both scored by fielder's choice with Nick Roscetti at the plate.

The Hawkeyes remain in the winners bracket and will face the winner of Canisius and Missouri State on Saturday at 7:00.
