IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City man faces charges, accused of using a blow torch in two separate burglaries - one of which involved Habitat for Humanity. Brent Lothridge was booked early Thursday morning on several charges.

Police reports say Brent Lothridge used his own blow torch to cut open a tool box and cut the locks off of a trailer at an Iowa City construction site on May 8, stealing more than $7,500 worth of tools and equipment.

That's not all, police say he also stole from Habitat for Humanity using the blow torch on April 21. They say Lothridge was caught on video using his torch to cut into a mulch donation lock box at Habitat for Humanity Restore; investigators say there was only $5 in the box, but the blow torch caused $560 in damage.

He's charged with possession of burglar's tools, 2nd degree theft, 3rd degree burglary and 3rd degree criminal mischief. As of Friday morning, Lothridge was being held in the Muscatine County Jail.
