DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque Police Department says a 13-year-old was injured after running into a car this afternoon near the intersection of Jackson and 28th Streets.

Lt. Scott Baxter says just before 3 p.m., the 13-year-old ran out into Jackson Street from between two vehicles and ran into the passenger side of a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Jarrod D. Ruggles of Dubuque. Baxter says Ruggles had no time to try to avoid the accident and was not at fault.

Baxter added that Ruggles did leave the scene, but was later found at his home. He is charged with not having a valid drivers license, leaving the scene of a crash and not rendering aid. He was released and not taken to jail.

The teen was taken to Mercy Hospital. He is expected to recover.

Baxter reminds drivers to be more aware of kids outside playing now that school is letting out for the summer and the temperatures are warming up.
