DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office says a body was found in a car that was on fire near the Dubuque Regional Airport on Thursday morning.

In a press release, they said they, along with the Dubuque Fire Department, were called to the scene of a burning car on Airport Road around 6 a.m. Thursday, May 28.

Once on the scene, they found the body of one person in the passenger compartment of the car, according to the press release.

The remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy for positive identification.

Officials said in the release that they believe they know the identity of the person, but are waiting on confirmation.
