Iowa mansion up for auction

URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) -- An Urbandale mansion featuring a dance floor, theater and drawbridge that once was listed for nearly $5 million will go on sale in an auction next month.

The Des Moines Register reports that the home is owned by Ted Townsend, a philanthropist and former CEO of Townsend Engineering. Townsend said he's looking to downsize from his home that has been on sale since May 2014.

He put the home on the market for $4.9 million, but a recent online listing had the price at $3.9 million.

Built in 1981, the home has a waterfall tub, built-in aquarium, hidden massage suite, theater and a six-car garage. It was designed by architect Ken Kendall, who also designed the Ruan Center, the second tallest building in Des Moines.
