Next week will kick off Iowa City's "Party in the park" program.

It's a great time to bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join other neighbors for an evening of fun and entertainment in a different local park each week.

Thursday, June 4, the first party of the year will be held at Kiwanis Park, on Iowa City's west side.

The event will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will include live music by Marc Janssen, as well as games, arts and crafts, and ice cream. This is a no-fee event and is open to the public.

Party in the Park is sponsored by the City of Iowa City's Parks and Recreation Department and the Neighborhood Outreach Division. A party will be scheduled in a different Iowa City park each week from June 4 through August 6, giving residents a chance to enjoy their summer evenings outdoors with friends and family while exploring the City's many beautiful natural spaces and neighborhoods.

The full summer Party in the Park schedule is as follows:

  • June 4: Kiwanis Park: Aber Avenue and Teg Drive, music by Marc Janssen
  • June 11: Reno Park, Reno and Fairchild Streets, music by Ron Hillis
