Officials with the Hartman Reserve Interpretive Center say they've secured a major piece of funding for a remodel effort.

The Black Hawk County Gaming Association voted to grant $1.1 million to the county Conversation Board.

"This grant and all other investments in the Hartman Remodel Project are a tremendous endorsement of the project, and a heartfelt thank you is extended to the community!" wrote a representative of the reserve.

Reserve officials say this shortens the fund raising phase of the project. They now hope to finalize plans by August, accept bids in January, and break ground by April 2016.

The hope to complete the project by August 2017.

So far, they've raised more than $2 million, and are only $100,000 short of the goal.

From officials: Ruth Buck, former member of the Black Hawk County Conservation Board, has issued a challenge grant in the amount of $50,000. This is an opportunity for Hartman fans to still be part of this legacy project! Please visit www.HartmanReserve.org, call 319-277-2187, or stop by the Interpretive Center to donate and to view architectural plans.
