DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The new exhibit at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque, "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition", helped the museum set a new attendance record for Memorial Day weekend.

According to John Sutter, Director of Marketing and Sales, 5,677 visitors came to the museum for the opening weekend.  That total nearly doubles the average 3,000 visitors the museum has seen during previous Memorial Day weekends.

The Titanic exhibit, which contains actual artifacts recovered from the wreckage at the bottom of the North Atlantic, is the largest exhibit the museum has ever hosted at 5,000 square-feet.

The exhibit is open through September 7.
