WEST UNION (KWWL) -

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says a registered sex offender is back in custody after failing to return from work release, and also cutting off a GPS tracking device.

The West Union Police Department and Fayette County Sheriff's Office were notified early Tuesday morning that 26-year-old David Matthews did not return to the West Union Residential Facility.

Matthews later turned himself into the residential facility.  He's now in the Fayette County Jail and being held on a temporary confinement order.
