People sign petition in favor of roundabouts

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Roundabouts continue to spark conversation in Cedar Falls, and there's a petition circling in favor of them.

Jenna Miller of Cedar Falls started the petition Tuesday, and between online and handwritten signatures, she estimates she's gathered anywhere from 300 to 350 signatures.

The petition is in favor of the roundabouts planned for University Avenue.

Some of the comments from people who signed it say, "looking forward to a modern road design" and "roundabouts will be safer."

Miller agrees. She says traffic will flow easier, pedestrians will be safer, and drivers won't get stuck at red lights anymore.

"I don't like going down University Avenue and waiting at stoplights."

Miller also says the plan will attract people to the area.

"We draw people to the area and it's good for economic development along that corridor."

Some drivers, however, are still opposed to roundabouts.

"Confusing!  Confusing! It's not the easiest thing in the world and I don't understand the concept," Lynn Manson said.

Miller, though, stands by her petition and believes the roundabout plan for University Avenue will help drivers get where they need to go.

"Use University Avenue, and do it effectively."
