DNR: Avenue of the Saints fish kill due to algae

Posted: Updated:
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources confirms a fish kill on Friday, May 15 was due to an algae bloom.

The fish killed happened in the Avenue of the Saints lake between Waverly and Shell Rock. Dan Kirby with the DNR says roughly 1,500 fish died.

Kirby attributes the kill to an algae bloom that led to bad water quality.

He says there was no spill or pollution, simply a "naturally occurring kill."
