Pops the dog "retires" in Iowa

Posted: Updated:

"He's a friendly dog. I think I like his good humor."

During the rainy days of May, everybody could use someone to lay around with.

"Like people when they get old, they like to lay around," said Forrest Noonan, a Western Homes resident.

A dog like Pops is usually last to be adopted from the Humane Society, but members at Western Homes knew he would be the perfect fit.

"He loves to lay down and relax, just like the residents here, everybody usually gets a few naps in, and he joins them right on the couch," says nurse Brandy Johnson.

When he's not a cuddle buddy, he's a good listener.

"Oh I mowed yards for people, maybe got 50 cents," said Noonan.

He's a good companion during game time, too.

Western Homes is an assisted living facility for people with mental disabilities, and qualifications for pets is very specific.

"They tried a dog in the past but it was just too wild and crazy," said Johnson.

And it's not just one sided.

Pops finally has a place to retire, and a place to call a forever home.
