RedTails sign first student-athlete

WATERLOO (KWWL) - The Hawkeye Community College RedTails have signed their first student-athlete since announcing the start of intercollegiate athletics at the school.

Dalton Klemp of from Denver High School has signed a letter of intent to compete for the RedTail Sports Shooting team during the 2015-2016 school year. Klemp, who will enroll full-time in the Automotive Technology program, will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

“Dalton will make a great addition to our team next season,” Kevin Boldt, sports shooting coach, said in a written statement. “His high school trap shooting experience and his passion for the sport make him a tremendous asset to the RedTails.”

Klemp, a four-time varsity shooter at Denver High School, finished in the top 10-percent at the 2014 Iowa High School Trap Shooting Championship. He placed 115th out of 1,046 competitors.

“His initiative and commitment to go above what is expected of him is what we are looking for in our team members and Hawkeye Community College students,” Boldt added in his statement.

The Hawkeye RedTail Sports Shooting Team begins its first season of competition this fall..
