Hundreds march for peace in Waterloo

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of people marched for peace Sunday night in Waterloo.

It comes after police say a 15-year old girl was shot and killed by her 14-year-old brother.

It also comes after several other cases of gunfire and violence in the city over the last two months.

The march started at Mount Carmel Baptist Church and ended at Sullivan Park.

Church leaders say it was chance to stand in solidarity with their neighbors.

The gathering was all generated by Rev. Frantz Whitfield and Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

"I hope the people that aren't marching they see that we're tired of this. We're tired of the violence and we don't want it anymore," said Whitfield.

The gathering was something people with the newly formed group "Taking Back Waterloo" was happy to see.

"We just had to come out. We had to form as a community as a whole and show the community that we're tired of the violence. We're tired of the back and forth shootings. We got to take a stand," said Travis Hoing.
