DUBUQUE (KWWL) - A Dubuque Senior student was taken into custody Friday after police say he threatened a student, postured "in an assaultive manner" and "disheveled" a staff member's work area, then resisted arrest and put a school resource officer in the hospital.

The 16-year-old faces charges of simple assault, interference with official acts causing injury and first-degree harassment. All three charges are misdemeanors.

According to the Dubuque Police Department, the student threatened another student and disrupted a class prior to officers' contact with him. He also "put a school staff member in fear by posturing in an assaultive manner while also disheveling the staff member's work area," according to the police report.

Once school resource officers arrived, the student resisted going into custody. One officer was injured in the ribs during the incident, requiring a short hospital stay, and is expected to miss several days off work, according to police.

The student also had pepper spray used on him by the resource officers, according to police.

KWWL does not generally name minors charged with a crime unless it is a felony.
