Iowa Men's Golf in tie for 8 after first round in NCAA Regional

The Iowa Hawkeye men's golf team shot an 11-over-par 291 in the first round of the NCAA Yale Regional on Thursday, earning a tie for eighth place after 18 holes of the 54-hole event.    South Florida leads the team standings with a one-over-par 281, followed closely by Ohio State (282), San Diego State (284), top-seed Vanderbilt (285) and Oklahoma State (286).  The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championships.  The Hawkeyes also trail Troy (+9) and North Carolina State (+9) and are tied with North Texas.

Iowa was led in the opening round by senior Ian Vandersee, who carded a one-over-par 71 on The Course at Yale (par 70).  Vandersee is tied for 12th place in the individual standings.  The top 7 teams advance to the NCAA Championships.
