WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Veridian Credit Union is offering a Free Community Shred Day event at several locations across the state, to help Iowans protect their identities by safely disposing of private documents.

People can take your documents to five Iowa branches on May 16, from 9:00 in the morning until noon to get your documents ripped up and recycled. Participating locations in eastern Iowa are in Cedar Rapids at 2810 Edgewood Rd. SW, Iowa City at Hy-Vee East, 812 S. 1st Ave., and in Waterloo at 1827 Ansborough Ave.

During their Shred Day in 2014, more than 1,200 people came out and more than 30,000 pounds of documents were shredded and recycled.
