Marion PD's annual 5K4K9 set for June

Posted: Updated:

The Marion Police Department's 5th annual 5K4K9 Fun Run and Walk is set for June.

The annual fundraiser will be at the Linn-Mar High School Saturday, June 6 starting at 9 a.m., to support the K-9 Unit.

Participants are asked to gather at the west side of the Linn-Mar High School Stadium for a meet and greet with the k9s and their handliers.

The K9 unit was established in 1998 through generous contributions from the community and continues to be funded through donations.

The unit consists of two Belgian Malinois and two Dutch Shepherds; trained specifically for narcotics and bomb/firearm detection. All dogs are also trained to conduct building searches, assist in tracking/apprehending suspects, and other general patrol functions. Ongoing costs include training, veterinary expenses, equipment, supplies and replacement of dogs when necessary.

Runners and walkers are welcome (no animals please). The $20 entry fee is good through May 22, after which it will be $25 and t-shirt size is not guaranteed. Packet pickup will be Friday, June 5 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Marion Police Department, 6315 Highway 151. Chip timers will be available the morning of the event.

Registration information can be found online at or, or picked up at the Marion Police Department. Call 319-200-7710 or email for further information.
