Lake City tornado has other schools reviewing emergency plans

GREENE (KWWL) - Video of the roof being blown off of the Southern Cal High School building has school administrators across the state talking.

At North Butler High School in Greene, they've got a plan.

"These are all the classrooms where they'll go," said Dan Huff, principal.

Students, faculty, and staff practice the emergency plan twice a semester, but do their parents know what to do?

Commencement will be held on Sunday, and Huff says they need to be prepared for anything.

Principal Huff says 44 students will graduate Sunday and roughly 500 people will pack this gym to congratulate them.

"Before the ceremony begins we would probably instruct our audience, 'If this were to happen, here's what we would do,'" he said. "We'd probably walk them through where we would go. We would let them know we're monitoring the situation."

In the event of a tornado, the administration would escort everyone to the lower levels of the building. They would go to a few locker rooms, the wrestling room and restrooms.

"We've looked at our areas we have enough spots," said Huff. "I think probably one of the safest places, too, would be in the building."

Principal Huff says if it looks like severe weather is going to be a threat during the whole event, they will just postpone it.
