LA PORTE CITY (KWWL) - The family of a man accused of murdering his 11-month-old son is speaking out -- and proclaiming his innocence.

Authorities in California worked with Waterloo police to arrest Lucas Dingman of La Porte City on Friday. He's accused of setting a fire near his 11-month-old son's crib four years ago while they lived in California.

"We believe that it was intentionally set. But not from my brother though," said Angela Dingman, Lucas Dingman's sister.

For four years, California detectives have been sifting through evidence and conducting interviews. On Friday, they came to Iowa.

"I said, 'Lucas, it's kind of weird that they're going to come here all the way from California to talk to you,' but he was like, 'Oh no, they're going to tell me something. I'm going to finally get some closure on my son's death,'" said Angela Dingman.

But that's when they arrested Lucas Dingman for murder.

"He's never been the same since it happened. Every day, we're trying to think of what happened, what could have happened, what could have happened, what could happen. Every day my brother wonders," said Angela Dingman.

An old neighbor and babysitter from California says she isn't surprised with the arrest.

"He never really sat there and showed he cared about Bradley. He wasn't hands on or anything," said Brittany Sorenson.

Still, Dingman's family says he was a wonderful dad and knows someone else committed this murder. They say there were other people living with them at that time and they believe it was one of those people.

At last check, Dingman was still in Black Hawk County. He'll move to San Bernadino County, California, to face the murder charge.
