CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Environmentalists looking for a new green habit can mark their calendars for August 20.

The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) is holding a one-day workshop on composting food waste.

The Food Waste Compost Training: On the Farm and in Your Community will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Center for Energy and Environmental Education on the UNI campus.

The training will be led by Robert Rynk, an expert in compost research with the United States Composting Council.

Sessions will include preventing odors, managing storm water, using food waste as feedstock and more.

Early bird registration is $20 through June 30. Registration continues into early August but fees will increase and seats are limited.

More information and registration is available at iwrc.org/compost.
