CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The city of Cedar Rapids is planning activities for National Bike Month, including a week's worth of events for National Bike to Work Week, May 11th through 15th.

Cedar Rapids Transit will offer free bus rides for cyclists using the bus bike racks during Bike to Work Week.

Monday, May 11th includes the Mayor's Proclamation and Bike to Week Kick-off.  At 7:00 a.m. bicyclists can meet at Red's Public House (112 2nd Street SE) to join Mayor Corbett for a short ride downtown after the proclamation to help kick the week off. 

On Tuesday, May 12th bicyclists can take advantage of a Citywide Bike to Lunch.  There will be lunch specials from noon to 1:00 p.m. at a variety of restaurants for those riding to lunch.

Free t-shirts, refreshments, coupons and educational material on bike safety and awareness will be offered at two Bike Pit Stops on Wednesday, May 13th.  The first will be from 7 – 9:00 a.m. at 1st Avenue and 4th Street downtown.  The second will happen 4- 6:00 p.m. at| 4th Avenue and 4th Street downtown.

On Thursday, May 14th is Meet Me at the Market, a community bike ride to Prairie Park Fishery at 6:00 p.m.

The Mayor's Bike Ride at Cedar Lake Park Pavilion will happen the morning of Friday, May 15th at 7:00 a.m.
The ride will travel from the Cedar Lake Park Pavilion to United Fire Group (118 2nd Ave SE).  Bicyclists interested can continue to other downtown destinations, including Banker's Trust, Rockwell Collins, Geonetric, TransAmerica, Hibu, and GE Capital via the Cedar River Trail.
