DES MOINES (KWWL) - The Iowa Department of Public Health says new cases of HIV among Iowans decreased 19% from 2013 to 2014.

According to the 2014 end of the year report, 99 Iowans were diagnosed with HIV last year, the fewest number diagnoses since 88 were recorded in 2003.

The number of HIV-infected persons living in Iowa at the end of 2014 was 2,369 - or about 77 per 100,000 people in the state.
The number includes persons diagnosed while living in another state, but who now reside in Iowa.  As of December 31, 2014, 96 of Iowa's 99 counties had at least one person living with HIV.
