Posted: Updated:

It's the 10th anniversary for a very popular event in Mount Vernon.

Chalk the Walk brings together more than 300 artists from all over the the country. From professional artists to teens, featured artists use the Mt. Vernon Downtown street as their canvas and more than half a ton of chalk to create chalk masterpieces.

"It really means a lot to this town to bring some notoriety to this town," said Matt Siders with Mt. Vernon's Parks and Recreation. "We're known for our festivals, but this is the largest festival out of all of them and it just brings the most people, and brings the most joy, in my mind."

This years largest collaborative piece of chalk art is a 20' by 40' re-creation of Grant Wood's "American Gothic."

More than $1,500 in cash prizes will be awarded this year.

Organizers are expecting about 10,000 people to attend.

The event will continue Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
