DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A 16-year-old faces numerous charges after police say he got drunk, stole a street sweeper and crashed it during a high-speed chase early Friday.

Dubuque Police say an officer saw the 1999 GMC street sweeper truck swerving as it was moving south on Grandview Avenue at around 2:10 a.m. Friday.

Lt. Scott Baxter says the teen failed to stop for the officer, reaching speeds of up to 47 miles per hour before losing control of the truck and crashing on South Grandview near Perry Street.

Baxter says the truck crashed into a pole, a tree and a parked car. Both the car and the street sweeper were totaled.

The teen is charged with operating while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, eluding, speeding, failure to maintain control, failure to have a valid driver's license or permit and failure to have a valid driver's license or permit while operating a vehicle.

He was injured, but is expected to recover.

Baxter says the teen, who admitted to stealing the truck, ran away from the Hillcrest Family Services facility at 2445 Hillcrest Road.

Baxter says the truck is owned by College Lawn Service and was stolen from the Target parking lot where it's typically parked.
