Iowa-owned horse odds 50-1 in Kentucky Derby

Preparations for The Kentucky Derby are well underway, and a horse with Iowa ties pulls #14 position for the Derby. Keen Ice is owned by Donegal Racing, a Des Moines based stable, which has sent 2 other horses to the Derby int he last five years.

Keen Ice, is the son of Curlin - the 2007 Preakness winner. Ice's odds as of Thursday morning sit at 50-1.

Kent Desormeaux is jockeying for Keen Ice; Desormeaux is a three-time Kentucky Derby winner, with Real Quiet in 1998, Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000 and with Big Brown in 2008.

The horse is trained by Dale Romans, who's trained such greats as Paddy, O'Prado, O'Prado Again, Sassy Image, and First Dude.

Keen Ice finished 4th at the Louisiana Derby, 3rd at Risen Star and 3rd at Remsen. Keen Ice is owned by Donegal Racing, an Iowa-based stable.
