DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Dubuque Police have released the name of the woman struck and killed by a semi Thursday in Dubuque.

Kelly Schuster, 45, of 135 Hill St. was the victim.

The investigation is ongoing.

PREVIOUS STORY:

A 45-year-old woman was killed Thursday after she was struck by a semi while crossing Dodge Street in Dubuque.

The woman, who is not being named by Dubuque Police, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders, according to Lt. Scott Baxter with the Dubuque Police Department.

The woman was apparently walking south attempting to cross Dodge Street in front of a stopped westbound semi at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, according to police.

"It's definitely not encouraged," said Baxter. "This is one of the biggest intersections in our city, and it's very busy, especially during midday. There's no designated crosswalks established anywhere in that intersection, so it's quite dangerous to cross there."

The semi was stopped for a red light, according to police.

When the light turned green, the semi apparently proceeded forward and turned onto Locust Street, apparently unable to see the woman still in the intersection, according to police.

The semi driver -- Dennis M. Schulte, 48, of South Amana -- was not injured, according to police.

The intersection was shut down for more than two hours to investigate the incident. It reopened just before 1 p.m. Thursday.

The identity of the woman will be released after family notification, police said.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
